Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant bulbs in the fall, 4-6 weeks before the first frost.
  • - Dig a hole about 6 inches deep and plant bulbs with the pointed end facing up.
  • - Space bulbs 4-6 inches apart for proper air circulation and growth.

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time.
  • - Reapply fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge to encourage large blooms.
  • - Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which can lead to excessive foliage growth.

Pruning and Care:

  • - Deadhead spent flowers to redirect energy back into the bulb.
  • - Allow the foliage to yellow and die naturally, which helps feed the bulb for next season.
  • - Mulch around the bulbs in late fall to protect them from freezing temperatures in cold climates.

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Protect bulbs from rodents like squirrels by covering planting areas with chicken wire or a layer of mulch.
  • - Aphids may occasionally affect plants; insecticidal soap or a strong water spray can control infestations.

  • - Blue Jacket Hyacinths bloom in mid-spring, typically around April.
  • - Flowers are fragrant and deep blue with a hint of violet, adding vibrant color to gardens.
  • - Blooms last 1-2 weeks depending on weather conditions.

  • - Thrives in full sun (6-8 hours of direct sunlight).
  • - Can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates, but fewer blooms may result.

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 3-9.
  • - Requires a cold period (below 40°F) for successful blooming.
  • - In warmer climates (zones 8-9), chill bulbs in the refrigerator for 10-12 weeks before planting.

Companion Plants for Blue Jacket Hyacinth:

  • - Pansies: Provide a colorful and low-growing complement to the tall, upright blooms of hyacinths.
  • - Tulips: Another spring-blooming bulb that works well with hyacinths for a vibrant, layered garden bed.
  • - Grape Hyacinth: Adds more shades of blue to your garden and pairs nicely with the larger Blue Jacket blooms.
  • - Daisies: These cheerful flowers provide additional late spring and summer interest once the hyacinths have faded.

Such quick shipping!

I've always loved the quality of plants from GrowJoy, the exact reason why I continue to support them even after the tough time they experienced during the pandemic. I'm only rating these bulbs a 4 because they are bulbs and not plants but I'm sure I won't be disappointed when they grow all fabulous. :)
