Best Plants, Great Packaging, Real Value
Schizophragma (skĭts-oh-FRĂG-muh), commonly called False Hydrangea Vine or Japanese Hydrangea Vine, offers a unique, climbing, albeit just as gorgeous, alternative to traditional Hydrangeas, ideal for adding vertical interest to walls, fences, and trellises. These deciduous, clinging, flowering vines bloom in early summer with airy-looking white or pink, lacy, Lace Cap blossoms, accompanied by that signature fragrance, and finely-toothed leaves. Slow-growing to begin with, once established, False Hydrangea will quickly take off, especially when having the right climbing material, which is just about anything except metal or vinyl. Bricks, wood, stone…any somewhat porous material will make the Japanese Hydrangea very happy, as its small aerial roots need something to cling to. (This is not the same way that ivy clings—it will not damage what it climbs on.) Shade-tolerant, with most varieties being drought-tolerant and heat-resistant, Schizophragma vines thrive in partial sun and are an excellent choice for cooler, shaded areas of the garden. Their fast-growing habit, once they are well-established, makes them an ideal candidate for covering large structures, begetting elegance and charm wherever they are planted.
At GrowJoy, we take great care in cultivating our Schizophragma starter plants using sustainable practices to ensure they are safe for your garden and beneficial to pollinators.
