Lamium (LAY-mee-um), commonly called Dead Nettle or Spotted Dead Nettle (though there are no stinging nettles on this plant), is a versatile perennial ground cover admired for its distinctive, heart-shaped, silvery leaves, appearing slightly fuzzy, spotted, or deeply serrated, depending upon the variety. Lamium is adorned with delicate-looking, hooded, helmet-shaped flowers. Each blossom will transition to four tiny brown nutlets (seeds), as the blooming season ends. You have a choice of a variety of foliage colors, including silver, silvery-green, and parti-colored patterns. Lamium adds spectacular texture, visual interest and arresting color to shaded gardens, borders, and woodland settings. Its small, uniquely-shaped flowers, typically in shades of pink, purple, or white, bloom above the foliage and is attractive to essential pollinators like bees and butterflies. Lamium thrives in partial to full shade with well-drained soil; its ability to tolerate dry shade makes it an excellent choice for challenging garden areas where other plants may struggle, such as under large tree canopies. These hardy perennial plants are deer-resistant and require minimal care, making them ideal for low-maintenance landscapes.
At GrowJoy, we grow our Lamium starter plants without harmful pesticides, ensuring they are safe for your garden and the environment. Each plant is nurtured to promote a strong, healthy root system, allowing it to thrive once transplanted. We guarantee that every Lamium plant will arrive in good condition, ready to flourish and add to your joy in your garden.
