Best Plants, Great Packaging, Real Value
The Burgundy Giant Pennisetum (Fountain Grass) Plant has been described as looking like a red-leafed corn plant. Wow! How pretty! With sword-like, bronzy-burgundy leaves that are usually 1 to 1.5-inches wide, the stems are quite strong and hefty for a Pennisetum. Burgundy Giant flourishes in hot, humid weather. Even a light frost can kill it, so most gardeners grow this variety as an annual; but it grows so quickly that it easily reaches its full height and bears flowers in one season, even in zone 6. Its pinky-burgundy, fox-tail-like flower spikes grow up to 12-inches long and are often the most pendulous part of this monster ornamental. Many gardeners plant the giant as a focal point and backdrop for interesting yard ornaments such as bird baths, gazing balls or fountains.
