This Black-eyed Susan variety is best grown as an annual but may self-sow for the next season. They grow best in full sun and well-drained soil. Deadheading will encourage prolific bloom, leaving some of the last seed heads to remain for winter food for seed eating wild birds. Black-eyed Susan plants attracts butterflies while deer avoid them!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Best planted in spring or fall, but can be established in summer with proper watering

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0

  • - Avoid heavy feeding, as Rudbeckia thrives in lean soil conditions

  • - Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring to encourage healthy regrowth

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Generally pest and disease resistant, though can occasionally attract aphids
  • - Provide good air circulation to prevent mildew

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from mid-summer through early fall

Light Requirements:

  • - Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade in hotter climates

Pretty plant but annual or perennial?

Purchased these because the autumn colored rudbeckias purchased a few months ago did so well. I was hoping these would be as robust but I won't know until next year. They were listed as perennials but the writeup says treat them as annuals and of course I didn't read that. I am in zone 6B so I hope they grow big enough to produce seed heads before winter and they reseed for next year.

Pleasantly Surprised

I purchased 3 Cherry Brandy Rudbeckia from you after the bare roots I purchased from Holland Bulb arrived in despicable dead condition. What a difference. I will never buy bare root from Holland again. So glad they were not able to replace the dead ones and I found this site.
