Plant Features

The Cityline® Mars Hydrangea Plant is a Proven Winners® selection and a compact plant packing huge, brilliant color! The creamy white and pink variegated flowers look as if they've been kissed by fairies when they bloom, then change to a mellow, calming green as they age. This variety is mildew-resistant and moderately salt tolerant. Cityline makes a great perennial border for a tall-growing garden or a stunning container plant and grows well in coastal areas, as long as it is protected from direct salt spray.

Planting Instructions:

  • - Can be planted anytime the soil temps are 60F

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0, though varies by species
  • - Prefers well-drained soil with organic matter for most bush varieties

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water thoroughly when first planted, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings
  • - Once established, most bushes are drought-tolerant but benefit from regular watering during dry spells

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth
  • - Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can promote excessive foliage growth at the expense of blooms

Pruning and Training:

  • - Prune in late summer after the flowers fade, never in the spring
  • - Up to one-third of the stems length can be pruned back

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Most bushes are pest-resistant, though monitor for aphids, mites, or scale insects depending on the species
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues in dense growth

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Tolerates heat and cold once established

Big and healthy

The Cityline Mars Hydrangea is such a nice large plant with a good amount of branching, arrived as usual, in perfect condition. I've been jealous of my neighbors plant and now I have one of my own. These are breath-taking when they are in bloom. Can't wait till this one does. Highly recommend this one because of it's disease resistance.
