Plant Features

Espresso Hardy Geranium Plant produces wonderfully colored showy lavender-pink blossoms; however, it is the foliage for which this variety is most widely grown. Having distinct café au lait coloration, the 6 inch leaves are deeply cut, forming a loosely clumping mound atop which the 1 1/2-inch blossoms dance for 6 to 7 weeks. This Cranesbill does not normally re-bloom, so deadheading is not necessary, though the foliage will maintain that unusual color in the garden through to the first frost, the flowers giving way to distinctive beak-shaped seed capsules adding even more fall and winter interest.

Our Geranium Plants are grown with care, free from harmful pesticides, ensuring they are a safe and colorful addition to your garden. Guaranteed to arrive healthy and ready to thrive!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant in spring or fall for best results
  • - Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for full growth and air circulation

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.5
  • - Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water thoroughly when first planted, allowing soil to dry out between waterings
  • - Once established, Geraniums are drought-tolerant but prefer consistent moisture during the growing season

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth
  • - Avoid excessive fertilization, as it may lead to leggy growth

Pruning and Training:

  • - Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous blooming
  • - Trim back in late fall or early spring to maintain a compact shape

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Generally pest-resistant but can be susceptible to aphids and whiteflies; monitor for signs of infestation
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from late spring through fall with vibrant clusters of flowers in shades of pink, red, white, and purple

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 4-9, tolerates light frost but may require protection in colder regions

Companion Plants for Geranium:

  • - Lavender: Complements Geranium’s bright blooms with its soothing fragrance and purple hues
  • - Echinacea: Adds height and vibrant color to pair with Geranium’s blooms
  • - Achillea: Offers a long-lasting bloom that pairs beautifully with Geranium’s flowers
  • - Coreopsis: Provides a continuous display of bright yellow flowers that contrast well with Geraniums
  • - Salvia: Adds vertical spikes of blue or purple for a striking contrast with Geranium’s clusters

Beautiful foliage!

I can't wait for the flowers on the Espresso True Geranium next spring to bloom, but I bought it because of its beautiful foliage. It adds a lot to my Terra Cotta stacking planter.
