Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant in spring or fall for best results
  • - Space plants 18-24 inches apart to allow for proper growth and air circulation

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0
  • - Prefers well-drained soil, tolerates poor or sandy soils

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water regularly until established, allowing soil to dry out between waterings
  • - Once mature, Echinacea is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring if soil fertility is low
  • - Excessive fertilizing can lead to leggy growth; minimal feeding is best

Pruning and Training:

  • - Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms, but leave some seed heads for winter interest and wildlife
  • - Cut back in late fall or early spring to clean up old growth

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Echinacea is generally pest and disease resistant, but occasionally monitor for aphids or leaf miners
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent any fungal issues

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from midsummer to early fall with large, daisy-like flowers in shades of pink, purple, or white

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 3-9, tolerates light frost and heat

Companion Plants for Echinacea:

  • - Rudbeckia: Complements Echinacea’s bright blooms with yellow daisy-like flowers
  • - Salvia: Adds vertical spikes of blue or purple that pair well with Echinacea’s bold colors
  • - Penstemon: Provides a contrasting texture with its tubular blooms
  • - Lavender: Offers a fragrant, drought-tolerant partner that blends beautifully with Echinacea
  • - Achillea: Pairs well with Echinacea’s bright flowers while attracting pollinators

Never fails…

I ordered this plus several other perennials at the beginning of June - right before the heat from Hades arrived. As always, the plants arrived in their little plastic "limos”, looking fresh and in great shape. They grew amazingly fast and the blooms are beautiful. This is my experience with all of the plants I’ve purchased - they just never fail. Can’t wait to order for next spring.

nice and healthy

Arrived a bit parched, gave it a good long drink, and put in shade till next morning. Looking forward to it to pop with color, not there yet. Healthy and in good shape otherwise

Firebird Echinacea plant

Firebird plants (2) arrived a little small in size and I called. She replaced the Firebird plants and were shipped out the next day. Plants arrived in excellent condition and are nice size plants. Would definitely order from GrowJoy again.

Echinacea Firebird

Firebird has its first bloom but so far the flower is Yellow-Orange and not Red. Since it just opened and this is the first bloom I can't say if it will turn Red or not. While I like it, I'm just not sure about the color being true. I'll know more in a few days after it ages.

Firebird Echinacea Plants

I am so glad I have found GrowJoy. All the plants I have ordered have been shipped in excellent condition and have thrived. Cone plants add so much color to my yard and bloom all summer. They also make great cut plant arrangements. Thanks to you guys I have become a true "cone head". I hope to eventually get every color!
