Plant Features

Garden Tangy is a fancy, large-leafed arugula that offers a milder, radish-like flavor that holds well even when cooked. Arugula is most often used in salads, soups, pasta, and on pizza. It can be grown indoors next to a south facing window. Indoor plants should be watered just as the potting mix starts to dry.

Planting Instructions:

  • - Space seeds or young plants 6-8 inches apart to allow for growth

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0, prefers rich, well-drained soil
  • - Enrich soil with compost or a balanced organic fertilizer to encourage vigorous growth

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells
  • - Avoid overwatering, as arugula does not like soggy soil

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a light application of balanced organic fertilizer at planting and midway through the growing season

Pruning and Training:

  • - No significant pruning is required, but regular harvesting of outer leaves will encourage new growth and prolong the harvest period

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Keep an eye out for flea beetles and aphids, which can damage the leaves
  • - Use floating row covers to protect plants or apply organic insecticidal soaps as needed

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Arugula prefers cooler weather and can be grown in early spring or fall
  • - Use shade cloths to extend growing season in warmer climates

Salads for days

This is my second year growing this variety and I am still happy with it. I like to let the plants bolt before I harvest because they have even more peppery arugula taste. These start going nuts in late summer and I can fill up a salad spinner every few days.

Lovely!

First time plant Tangy Arugula. This year I decided to plant them along side lettuce. They are thriving so nicely!
