Plant Features

Ithaca lettuce has thick, tender leaves with a crisp texture and mild, sweet flavor, perfect for fresh salads, sandwiches, and wraps. This crisphead variety forms large, solid heads with tightly folded leaves that deliver the classic iceberg crunch. Heat-tolerant and exceptionally resistant to bolting, it performs beautifully even in challenging summer conditions while resisting tip-burn and bottom rot. Grown with our natural methods to nurture their strength and flavor, Ithaca Lettuce Plants are guaranteed to arrive alive and thriving!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Transplant during any frost-free period when temperatures remain above 45°F

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water consistently, keeping soil moist but not waterlogged

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Right after transplanting: Use a fertilizer with a higher middle number (phosphorus) to encourage strong root growth. A 12-24-12 formula is ideal, but if that’s not available, look for something like 10-20-10 or 11-22-11. Apply 1 teaspoon per plant, keeping it at least 2 inches away from the stem to prevent root burn.
  • - 7, 14, and 21 days after transplanting: Switch to a fertilizer with a higher first number (nitrogen) to support leafy growth. A 20-10-10 blend is best, but if you can’t find it, look for something similar where the first number is the highest, like 18-9-9 or 21-11-11. Use 1–3 teaspoons per plant, adjusting based on the plant’s health.
  • - Additional option: Apply Neptune’s Fish and Seaweed as a foliar spray to provide extra nutrients and boost plant vigor.
