Plant Features

The Limerock Ruby Coreopsis Plant is a Tickseed developed by Mary Ann Faria of Limerock Plant Farm in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Once a rarity for Coreopsis, red is becoming more prevalent, this ruby-red color catching everyone's eye. Purely scarlet, the heat resistant blossoms have sunny yellow centers and sit atop airy, fern-like foliage, sometimes covering it almost completely. Even people who do not care for red in their gardens are planting this cultivar!

Our Coreopsis Plants are grown with care, ensuring they are free from harmful pesticides and safe for your garden and the environment. Guaranteed to arrive alive and thriving!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Can be planted spring, summer, or fall

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.5
  • - Coreopsis thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils and does not require rich soil

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system
  • - Once established, Coreopsis is drought-tolerant and needs only occasional watering
  • - Avoid overwatering, as Coreopsis prefers dry to medium moisture levels

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Typically does not require fertilization; Coreopsis is a low-maintenance plant

Pruning and Training:

  • - Cut back plants by one-third in midsummer to promote a second bloom cycle
  • - Divide clumps every 2-3 years to maintain vigor and prevent overcrowding

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Generally pest-free

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from early summer to fall, providing a long season of color
  • - Flowers attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators

Light Requirements:

  • - Can tolerate light shade, particularly in hotter climates, but flowering may be reduced

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Tolerates heat and drought; performs best in well-drained soils

Companion Plants for Coreopsis:

  • - Salvia: Their spikes of blue or purple flowers complement Coreopsis' bright blooms
  • - Echinacea: Their sturdy, upright growth and colorful blooms make a striking combination with Coreopsis
  • - Gaillardia: Their warm, fiery tones enhance the yellow hues of Coreopsis
  • - Penstemon: Adds vertical interest with its spikes of tubular flowers
  • - Ornamental Grasses: Their fine texture adds movement and structure to a Coreopsis planting

Again, great shape after delivery, and was in the best packaging I have ever seen from a garden  company.

Limerock Ruby Coreopsis

This plant, like the other coreopsis plants I ordered, arrived already blooming. Beautiful, vivid color. A great addition to my garden.
