The large blossoms are almost flat but appear fluted from the center to the slightly ruffled edge. What a dramatic statement they make! Hardy Hibiscus plants thrive in full sun locations with moist-wet, nutrient rich soil. Stems should be cut back in late winter. They are late to break ground in the spring.

Our Hardy Hibiscus Plants are carefully grown without harmful pesticides, ensuring they are a safe and vibrant addition to your garden. Guaranteed to arrive healthy and ready to thrive!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Best planted in spring or early summer for optimal root development
  • - Space plants 3-4 feet apart to allow for mature growth and proper air circulation

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.5
  • - Prefers moist, well-drained soil; thrives in rich, organic soil but tolerates average conditions

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water deeply and regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist
  • - Mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and maintain even soil temperature

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to encourage vigorous growth and flowering
  • - Feed again in mid-summer to support continuous blooming

Pruning and Training:

  • - Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged stems
  • - Cut back to the ground in late fall after the plant has gone dormant to encourage fresh growth next spring

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Hardy Hibiscus is generally pest-resistant but may attract aphids or Japanese beetles; monitor and treat if necessary
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from mid-summer to early fall with large, showy flowers in shades of red, pink, white, or purple

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 4-9, tolerates both heat and cold, but may need protection in colder regions

Companion Plants for Hardy Hibiscus:

  • - Echinacea: Complements Hibiscus with its bright, daisy-like blooms
  • - Achillea: Pairs beautifully with Hibiscus’ large flowers for a striking contrast
  • - Rudbeckia: Adds bright yellow blooms that enhance the bold colors of Hibiscus
  • - Lavender: Provides a fragrant, low-growing companion that complements Hibiscus blooms

Have re potted my hardy Luna in a larger pot bringing in at night until its a bit larger and the nighttime temperatures are above 50. Plant arrived healthy and has maintained as healthy, growing twice its arrival size already. So excited to see it mature.

Hardy Hibiscus- Luna Red

The plants arrived very dry. I sat them in a pan of water and left them to soak up what they needed. Planted right away. They are looking much better. I will post pictures later on as they grow. I am excited to see flowers on them next year.

Luna Red Hardy Hibiscus

This plant arrived quickly but was smaller than expected and there was no root ball. We put it in the ground with hopes of it surviving and it has. It hasn't grown as fast as the other but is a fighter.

Wow Hibiscus

Bought this Luna Red back in 2010. It impressed me both seasons and once again, it has rejuvinated itself. I can't wait to see the gorgeous, huge red blossoms. I think it's my favorite color! Neighbors stop & ask what it is & are surprised a hibiscus comes back so brilliantly. I have 5 colors now...what do I buy this year? :)
