Plant Features

The Midnight Bayou Heuchera Plant is one of the newer varieties. This Coral Bells produces foliage that is a rich reddish-purple with black veins, changing to an absolutely stunning silvery-purple in the fall, making this a great 'anytime' plant. Known to attract hummingbirds, the maple-like leaves are somewhat frilled and the pink blossoms appearing in spring and into the summer only highlight the brilliant color below for this alumroot.

Our Heuchera Plants are carefully cultivated without harmful pesticides, making them a safe and striking addition to your garden. Guaranteed to arrive healthy and ready to thrive!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant in spring or fall for best results
  • - Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for mature growth and air circulation

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.0
  • - Prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil with good organic matter

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water deeply when first planted, allowing the soil to dry between waterings
  • - Once established, Heuchera is relatively drought-tolerant but performs best with consistent moisture

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring
  • - Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can reduce leaf color intensity

Pruning and Training:

  • - Remove spent flower spikes to tidy the plant and encourage new blooms
  • - Cut back damaged or dead foliage in late winter or early spring to promote fresh growth

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Heuchera is generally pest-free but can occasionally attract vine weevils; monitor and treat if needed
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases like powdery mildew

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Blooms from late spring through summer, with delicate, bell-shaped flowers on slender stems

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 4-9, tolerates both heat and cold conditions

Companion Plants for Heuchera:

  • - Hosta: Complements Heuchera’s foliage with bold, contrasting leaves
  • - Astilbe: Adds soft, feathery blooms that pair beautifully with Heuchera’s textured leaves
  • - Ferns: Provides a lush, green backdrop to Heuchera’s colorful foliage
  • - Brunnera: Offers heart-shaped leaves that contrast with Heuchera’s form
  • - Echinacea: Adds height and vibrant color that pairs well with Heuchera’s foliage

Bright and healthy Heuchera

Picking a Heuchera plant was the hard part. GrowJoy has a great selection of these beautiful plants. I finally decided on the Midnight Bayou and I'm very happy I did. It's a bright autumn red color plant with maple-like shaped leaves. The plant arrived in a healthy condition and the soil was evenly moist. It fits perfectly in my shade garden. I know I'm going to enjoy watching it grow.

Midnight Bayou Heuchera

Bought 2 from local nursery. both wound up dying on me. Ordered one from GrowJoy. Was a smaller plant than from the nursery but started to grow right away. Would order again.

Midnight Bayou Heuchera

Bought 2 from local nursery and both died on me. This arrived smaller than the ones I bought but took to growing fast. By next year you won't even know it started that way. GrowJoy does not disappoint.
