Midnight Sun™ Weigela graces the garden with a spectacular display, featuring a bun-shaped structure adorned with glossy, vibrant orange and red foliage from summer through autumn. At a compact height and a neat stature makes it an ideal fit for garden borders, radiating a warm, welcoming ambiance in both summer and fall. The plant's distinct appeal doesn't end with its blazing foliage; it also produces delicate pink flowers in the spring, adding another layer of visual interest. However, it's the mesmerizing form and dynamic coloration of its leaves during the warmer seasons that truly set the Midnight Sun Weigela apart. Acting as a perennial alternative to the annual coleus, it delivers similar visual appeal without the need for yearly replanting, making it a low-maintenance yet high-impact addition to your garden, guaranteed to turn heads and captivate attention.

Planting Instructions:

  • - Can be planted anytime the soil temps are 60F

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.5, tolerating slightly acidic to neutral soil
  • - Prefers well-drained soil; amend heavy soils with compost for better drainage

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water deeply during the first growing season to establish a strong root system
  • - Once established, moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent watering during dry periods

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth and blooms
  • - Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers

Pruning and Training:

  • - Prune immediately after flowering to encourage new growth and maintain shape
  • - Remove dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Generally pest-resistant but monitor for aphids and spider mites
  • - Ensure good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew or other fungal diseases

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Tolerates cold winters and moderate heat; provide mulch to protect roots in extreme climates

Midnight Sun Weigela

I ordered it just because it was a Weigela and I collect them. It came in perfect condition and time. It was late summer and the leaves did have a nice colorful look to them. Have not seen the blooms which were earlier in the year. Definitely satisfied at this time..
