Plant Features

Opalka tomatoes are garden powerhouses, valued for their elongated, meaty fruits that rule the kitchen. This heirloom variety produces bright red paste tomatoes weighing 6 to 10 ounces, with smooth, firm skin—perfect for sauces, canning, or fresh eating. The flesh is dense and nearly seedless, delivering a rich, robust tomato flavor with a balanced taste.

Why choose Opalka? From Poland since the early 1900s, this indeterminate plant grows vigorously to 4–6 feet with support, yielding a heavy crop through the season. It’s a top pick for gardeners wanting versatile, tasty tomatoes with no notable disease resistance, thriving until frost.

Grown naturally and pesticide-free, our Opalka starter plants arrive healthy and ready to perform in your garden. Nurtured for success, they ensure a bountiful harvest of these flavorful tomatoes.

Been growing Opalka tomatoes for several years. Love the solid, large fruit with few seeds and excellent flavor. One of 2 main varieties we grow on a Florida Weave system. Perfect for canning and BLT's.

Opalka Heirloom Tomato

Imagine my shock when I found the box of Opakla tomato seedlings tucked behind the only decorative object on my front porch! (Remember, it's early in the season.) I expected the delivery four days prior and kept looking for it. I opened the box from GrowJoy and the seedlings still looked great, despite unusually high early spring temperatures. Thanks GrowJoy! Plants still looked good after 4 days in the USPS box!

Outstanding!

Easily the finest paste type I've ever grown. Great tasting , easy to peel sweet fruit are virtually seedless. Used in salsa = thick and chunky. Prolific and beautiful plant grows in a way that shields fruit from sun scald. It was the last tomato plant to be pulled from garden last fall and still producing. Will definitely buy again!
