Rutgers tomatoes are garden all-stars, valued for their versatile, flavorful fruits that suit every need. This open-pollinated variety produces bright red tomatoes weighing 6 to 8 ounces, with smooth, firm skin that resists cracking—great for slicing into sandwiches, canning, or sauces. The flesh is juicy and meaty, offering a balanced tomato flavor with a hint of sweetness.

Why pick Rutgers? Developed in 1934 by Rutgers University, this determinate plant grows to 3–4 feet, yielding a concentrated crop through the season with resistance to Fusarium, Verticillium, and more. It’s a reliable choice for gardeners wanting quality tomatoes in a compact form.

Grown naturally and pesticide-free, our Rutgers starter plants arrive healthy and ready to thrive in your garden. Nurtured for success, they ensure a steady harvest of these classic tomatoes.

We ordered Rutgers tomatoes, our plants arrived in excellent condition. As soon as we were clear of frost we planted. The tomatoes are thriving. We are VERY pleased with GrowJoy, they will definitely get our business next year.

Rutgers

Rutgers is another favorite of mine. This plant was quite large and very healthy. It already has blooms on it and I know it won't be long before I will have another tomato sandwich. Love GrowJoy!

Fabulous!

This was our first experience with GrowJoy. Not only did the plants arrive on time, and intact, it was clear they had been carefully packed. Great plants, along with easy to follow instructions. Our only regret is that we didn't find GrowJoy sooner!
