San Marzano tomatoes produce long, cylindrical fruits with thick flesh, few seeds, and a length of up to 3 1/2 inches. Known for their ability to hold up well on the vine or in storage, these tomatoes are prized for their complex, rich flavor, making them a favorite for sauces, canning, and gourmet cooking. Sweeter, larger, and less acidic than Roma tomatoes, San Marzano is a top choice for home and professional chefs alike. Planting Instructions:

- Transplant only after danger of frost has passed and nighttime air temperatures stay above 50°F

Soil Preparation:

- Ideal soil pH: 6.0-6.8
- Add compost or well-rotted manure (best done in the fall)

Watering Specifics:

- Water deeply and regularly
- Avoid wetting leaves to prevent disease

Fertilizer Type:

- Apply a balanced 5-5-5 fertilizer or our recommended Espoma Tomato Tone at planting, once flowers appear, and again three weeks later

Pruning and Training:

- Removing suckers is optional
- Stake or cage plants for support

Pollination:

C ould not believe it

This plant just keeps putting more and more tomatoes on it. I have had to use so many claps and zip ties to hold the clusters of heavy tomatoes up so they will not break. I know when they ripen I will be canning tomatoes. I will get 2 of these plants next year.

Greenhouse tomatoes
