Plant Features

Silver Dust Dusty Miller is widely used for its silvery foliage and looks fantastic when planted on the outer edges of mixed containers or hanging baskets. Mostly mounding, this Ragwort will also spread and is often used for growing in between annuals and perennials, providing color when the blossoms have faded and for the protection offered under its leaves for more heat-sensitive plants. The finely divided silvery leaves provide interest and color all season long, day or night!

Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant in spring after the last frost date

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 6.0-7.

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time
  • - Feed once or twice during the growing season, especially in poor soils
  • - Avoid excessive fertilization, which can diminish the silvery foliage

Pruning and Maintenance:

  • - Cut back plants in late summer if they become leggy, promoting fresh growth

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Generally pest-resistant

Light Requirements:

  • - Prefers full sun for best foliage color but can tolerate partial shade

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - Hardy in USDA zones 8-10; can be grown as an annual in cooler climates

Companion Plants for Dusty Miller:

  • - Petunias: Petunias provide a vibrant contrast to Dusty Miller’s silvery leaves, especially in containers
  • - Salvias: The deep blue or purple spikes of Salvias make a striking combination with Dusty Miller
  • - Marigolds: Marigolds’ bright orange and yellow blooms stand out against Dusty Miller’s subtle foliage
  • - Zinnias: Zinnias add height and color, making them ideal companions for Dusty Miller in garden beds
  • - Coleus: The vibrant foliage of Coleus plants pairs well with the silvery tones of Dusty Miller

Great Silver Dust Dusty Miller Plants

Strong well developed plants ready for the garden.

From Phil | May 05, 2016

My new Dusty Miller....

Arrived in the most protective packaging for plants that I have ever seen. I have received many plants by mail and GrowJoy has put all the others to shame. The plants are healthy and unbroken and I can't wait to see them in my garden. Thank you GrowJoy!

Dusty Miller

Silver Dust are a favorite of my moms and she wanted them planted in the front of the house so we ordered them. I have to say I was skeptical about ordering through the mail but was so happy and pleased that each and every plant was so happy inside the shipping box. I will for sure order again.
