Plant Features

Striped German tomatoes are garden showpieces, prized for their stunning, bicolored fruits that dazzle both the eye and palate. This heirloom variety yields large beefsteak tomatoes typically weighing 12 to 16 ounces—sometimes up to 2 pounds—with vibrant yellow skin streaked with red and a marbled interior, perfect for slicing into salads, sandwiches, or fresh eating. The flesh is juicy and meaty, delivering a complex, fruity tomato flavor with a smooth texture that’s a standout in summer dishes.

Why grow Striped German? Originating from German heritage, this indeterminate plant produces a steady crop through the season, known for its heavy yields and vigorous growth. While it lacks broad disease resistance beyond occasional cracking tolerance, its exceptional taste and striking appearance make it a cherished choice for gardeners seeking a gourmet heirloom that thrives until frost.

Grown naturally and pesticide-free, our Striped German starter plants arrive healthy and ready to thrive in your garden. Nurtured with care, they ensure a bountiful harvest of these beautiful, flavorful tomatoes that elevate any meal.

One happy plant!

Arrived safe, secure and healthy. Transplanted into a raised bed of tomatoes, carrots, pickling cuts and a variety of basil. Thriving, as in growing like a weed, since transplant. Lots of flowering, but no signs of tomatoes yet. I tend to plant many late season tomatoes and the waiting game can be painful, but the results are so worth every ache!

Delicious and came well packed

This is my favorite type of tomato, and my third year buying from Grow Joy. The fruits are as big as your hand and very flavorful. They're great on sandwiches. I'm in Zone 7, and mine produced the most in the early summer and late summer, when the temperatures were cooling. Meanwhile, my Brandywine Pinks were producing, so it lent itself to a good variety.
