Deep, luscious red buds are borne on grape-colored stems poking out among maple-like leaves that first emerge bronze and then mature to dark, bluish-green. The buds open to amazingly huge, 9 to 11-inch blossoms with overlapping petals that resemble pinwheels-dark red, hibiscus pinwheels! The ruffled and deeply veined petals culminate in an even deeper red throat.
