Plant Features

With dramatic contrast and a flashy burst of hot pink, Superbells® Rising Star Calibrachoa might steal the show this year. These abundant little blooms are a crisp contrast of electric pink delineated by a pure white center star and anchored with a pop of true yellow in the center. A continuous bloomer, they are all but perfect for containers but fare equally well in borders and beds. Their only real request is a well-drained environment.

Proven Winners® Superbells® Rising Star Calibrachoa hybrid 'KLECA16006' Can PBRAF, US Utility 9,313,959

Planting Instructions:

  • - Plant in spring after the last frost date
  • - Space plants 8-12 inches apart in containers, hanging baskets, or landscape beds
  • - Superbells Calibrachoa are versatile and can be used as trailing plants or groundcover

Soil Preparation:

  • - Ideal soil pH: 5.5-6.2 (slightly acidic)
  • - Use well-draining, peat-based potting mix for containers

Watering Specifics:

  • - Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
  • - Superbells are more drought-tolerant than many Calibrachoa varieties

Fertilizer Type:

  • - Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 10-14 days during the growing season
  • - Choose a fertilizer with micronutrients, especially iron
  • - For landscape plants, use a slow-release fertilizer in spring and mid-summer

Pruning and Training:

  • - Minimal pruning required; Superbells are self-cleaning and don't need deadheading
  • - If plants become leggy, trim back by about one-third to encourage bushiness
  • - For hanging baskets, occasional trimming can help maintain a balanced shape

Additional Pest Management:

  • - Watch for common pests like aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites
  • - Monitor for diseases such as root rot and botrytis, especially in humid conditions
  • - Superbells have good resistance to many common plant diseases

Blooming Indicators:

  • - Produces an abundance of bell-shaped flowers, larger than typical Calibrachoa
  • - Blooms continuously from spring through fall without deadheading

Light Requirements:

  • - Prefers full sun for best flowering and compact growth
  • - Can tolerate partial shade, but may become leggy and produce fewer flowers

Temperature Tolerance:

  • - More heat-tolerant than many Calibrachoa varieties
  • - Can tolerate light frost, but protect when temperatures drop below 35°F

Companion Plants for Superbells Calibrachoa:

  • - Petunias: These classic annuals offer similar flower shapes in complementary colors
  • - Verbena: Provides clusters of small flowers and a spreading habit that works well with Superbells
  • - Angelonia: Offers vertical interest and complements the trailing habit of Superbells
  • - Lantana: Provides contrasting flower clusters and thrives in similar conditions
